Hello to anyone who decides to follow along. My name is Matt and I'm 32 years young. I'm a 5th generation Montanan who comes from a farming and ranching background. I've had a love of model railroads for as long as I can remember. My modeling interests focus primarily on the BNSF and rural montana (areas east of the divide). After finishing college at MSU-Bozeman, I moved to Helena for work. Currently, I do not have an active layout. My most recent layout was of MRL heading west. The layout was three levels featuring Helena, Mullan Pass and Elliston, and was located in one of my outbuildings that is 12x30. However, I got bored with it and missed not having grain elevators so I tore it down! As we speak I am in the planning phases for a new layout. My design ideas are to model the BNSF engine terminal and car shops in Havre, or the Fort Benton Subdivision. Not sure what plan I will use just yet.
Outside of model trains, my other hobbies are mainly elk hunting and taxidermy. I've been doing taxidermy since high school and love giving some life back to an animal and helping people preserve their memories. My wife and I own a small farm (we both work full time to support it) and have 15 pairs of hereford cattle and 6 horses and mules.
