Things were pretty slow around the farm this weekend (waiting on hay to dry), so I decided to detail and weather one of my Scaletrains C44-9W per protoype photos. I forgot to take pictures of the whole process. My first step was to pull the shell apart so that I could isolate the AC unit and repaint and decal it as it came off of a warbonnet unit. The decals were from a microscale set. Then I put the shell back together and masked all of the windows and lights. I did a light weathering of the entire engine next. After that I added the burn scars near the radiator stacks. To give the scars texture, I added some weathering powder to the pint and built the paint up in several layers using different colors. Lastly. I did a heavier weathering of the entire engine and followed that up with a flat clear coat to seal everthing. I made sure to give the wheels a good cleaning to remove any paint and clear coat. I think It turned out pretty good. My weathering paint had a little too much tan in it, but other than that I was very pleased with how the project turned out. One thing I wish I had done was added figures to the cab.
